Prayers for a Dyslexic Child

NOTE: This English-language translation has not been approved by any liturgical commission. As it does not appear in the English-language Book of Needs, but yet is in the Mega Euchologion, Grand Euchologe and Agiasmatarion, it is being offered simply as scholarly work from the works of Schema-Archimandrite John (Lewis +2007).

AKOLOUTHIA OF INTERCESSION FOR A DYSLEXIC (TIRESOME OR DIFFICULT) CHILD

Priest:       Blessed is our God, always, now and ever and unto the ages of ages.

Reader:      Amen.

Priest:      Glory to Thee, our God, glory to Thee.

Heavenly King, O Paraclete, the Spirit of truth, who art everywhere present and fillest all things, the treasury of good things and bestower of life, come and tabernacle in us and cleanse us from every stain and save, O Good One, our souls.

Reader (trisagion prayers):

                   Holy God …

                   Glory/both now …

                   All-holy Trinity …

                   Lord have mercy (3x) …

                   Glory/both now …

                   Our Father

Priest:       For Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, of the Father and of the
Son and of the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto the ages of ages.

Reader:     Amen.

Choir or Reader, Plagal Second Tone (6th tone):

As Thou wast present among Thy disciples, O Savior, and gavest them peace, come
also among us and save us.

Thou hast renewed Thy disciples with foreign tongues, O Christ, that they might
therewith proclaim Thee, the immortal Logos and God, who grants our souls great mercy.

Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.

Heavenly King, O Paraclete, the Spirit of truth, who art everywhere present and
fillest all things, the treasury of good things and bestower of life, come and
tabernacle in us and cleanse us from every stain and save, O Good One, our souls.

Both now and ever and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

Open to us the gate of compassion, O blessed Theotokos, for hoping in thee, we
shall not fail; through thee may we be delivered from adversities, for thou art the
salvation of the race of Christians.

The priest reads the prayers on the head of the child:

Priest:       Let us entreat the Lord.

Reader:     Lord have mercy.

Priest:       O Lord, Jesus Christ, our God, Who hast dwelt in a real manner in the hearts of
the twelve Apostles by the grace of Thine All-Holy Spirit, descended in the form of
tongues of fire, and Who hast opened their lips, so that they began to speak in
other tongues, do Thou Thyself, O Lord Jesus Christ, our God, send Thy Holy
Spirit upon this child, [name], and fix the letters of Thy sacred teaching in the eyes
of (his or her) heart, as Thy holy hand engraved them for Moses on the tablets of
the law; by the intercessions of Thine all-undefiled Mother and of all Thy saints.

Reader:     Amen.

Priest:       Let us entreat the Lord.

Reader:     Lord have mercy.

Priest:      O Lord, Jesus Christ, our God, Who hast dwelt and enlightened the hearts of
the twenty-four presbyters, and of Thy holy disciples and Apostles, of Thy holy Apostles
and Evangelists John, Matthew, Mark and Luke; Thou Who hast inspired and
enlightened Thy holy Protomartyr Stephen; do Thou Thyself now, O Lord,
enlighten the heart of Thy (servant or handmaid), [name]; by the intercessions of
our most blessed Lady, Theotokos and Ever-Virgin Mary, by the power of the
precious and life-giving Cross, of the honorable and glorious Prophet, Forerunner
and Baptist John, of the holy, glorious and all-famed Apostles, of the holy Apostle
Matthias, of the holy Martyrs Agapetos, Procopios, Philetos and of all the saints.<

For Thou art the enlightenment of our souls and bodies, and to Thee do we send
up glory, together with Thine unoriginate Father and Thine All-Holy Spirit, now
and ever and unto the ages of ages.

Reader:     Amen.
